Have you got magic fingers on the keyboard? Do you love to organize? Do you know how to run an office with your eyes closed? We need you! The kitties need you too!
Catnip Casa needs help with various office work on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons between 1-4 pm. The work is at the main intake foster home. Catnip Casa Cat Refuge is entirely foster-home-based. The intake home is also the office and permanent residence for our most senior and special needs cats. This is a private foster home. The caregivers also work regular jobs from here too.
Our insurance requires all volunteers to be over 18.
We use PCs and Microsoft Office, and there are a variety of duties to keep you busy. Animal medical files are in the Shelter Manager program. You can help write a newsletter or short blog post and add new subscribers to the email list. If you know WordPress, you may be able to update the website and post blogs too. We also have fundraising projects and grants that need letters of inquiry and research. We need someone current on skills and confident of your experience, with good spelling and grammar. There is no time for a lot of training, but some is expected. Nonprofit experience is a plus.
Our workload is consistent. We have times when there is a lot of work due to events like Amplify Austin. There are also opportunities to do fun things like taking photos of kitties for our social media and even post your own posts. We welcome creative ideas if you like making up cute captions and creating posts in Canva. We use Buffer to schedule posts for TikTok, Twitter, and Facebook. Spreadsheets (Excel and Google Docs) are used to track TNR projects and grant applications.
In addition, there are things like medication inventory, food inventory, and rx reorders that need to be managed, along with maintaining our wishlists for Amazon and Chewy.
If you like pets, you are welcome to help with other shelter responsibilities when the office work is caught up. This is a very small organization. We like to teach and have fun too.
We can only accommodate one person at a time. Our desk space and equipment are limited. We'd like to have one person make a regular commitment for 4-6 months and get to know the animals, software programs, and duties. The work hours are from 1-4:30 pm on Tuesday and Thursday. We need someone able to be here consistently for the entire time on both days.
Our ideal volunteer is someone with a mature, responsible attitude who will be reliable and dependable, even though this is a volunteer job. You need to have administrative assistant level experience with MS Office programs and current computer skills for email, a bit of social media, spreadsheets, letters, and newsletters.
We welcome diversity. However, this is a private home that is over 50 years old. It is not ADA compliant, and our ability to make accommodations is limited.

Description
Catnip Casa Cat Refuge provides narrowly focused services for senior and special needs cats that require extensive rehab or lifelong pawspice care due to age, disease, or disabilities, that does not allow them to remain in their home or community. Of course, we occasionally end up with animals that need adoption too, when an animal is well enough to find a forever family.
We also educate owners, caregivers, professionals, and the public, about caring for pets with challenges caused by age, disease, disabilities, or terminal illness. We strive to develop a network of persons, services, foster homes, and resources that benefit the community.
Catnip Casa mentors trappers and actively supports TNR (trap/neuter/release) for community cats.
