Do you have a passion for helping others? Are you looking for a way to connect and give back to your community? Do you have a passion for helping others? Do you cherish older adults and their treasure trove of experiences? If so, consider volunteering with the Legacy Corps program!

Their stories are not unique: A daughter juggling her father's medical appointments while still working full-time; a wife providing round-the-clock care for her husband who has Parkinson's Disease; a husband who lovingly bathes and dresses his wife, although she no longer remembers his name. Family caregivers comprise over 40,000 of our friends, neighbors, and fellow residents of the Treasure Valley. More often than not, these unsung heroes provide 24/7 care for their loved ones without a break. Legacy Corps wants to change that. Our volunteers are matched with three families, providing each family 2-4 hours of companionship respite each week. Volunteers do not assist with personal care needs. If you have the desire to help others, listen to stories, provide your support to a family, or simply share your heart and a smile, we have many opportunities for you to shine. If you know someone who might like this opportunity, please pass it on.

These are AmeriCorps positions, providing opportunities to earn an education award (great gifts for your children or grandchildren!), monthly living allowance and in depth training and support.

About Aging Strong Programs by Jannus, Inc.

Location:

3501 W. Elder Street, BOISE, ID 83705, US

Mission Statement

Aging Strong Programs are housed under Jannus Inc, a non-profit health and human services organization helping individuals, families and communities in transition. Jannus changes lives through caring volunteers and a portfolio of diverse programs that promote health, advance policy and create opportunity.

Description

Aging Strong Programs consists of 4 volunteer powered progams (Legacy Corps, Powerful Tools, Memory Cafe, and Foster Grandparents). Our volunteers have the chance to choose between serving veterans, providing companionship to isolated older adults, working with those with memory loss or even mentoring children in schools. Legacy Corps Services help elderly age in place and decreases the stress of caregiving by providing weekly volunteer companion visits to older military connected families. The Powerful Tools For Caregivers workshops are volunteer instructor lead workshops giving family caregivers tools to care for themselves as well as their loved ones. The Memory Cafes are monthly gatherings for those with the dementia diagnosis as well as their loved ones. The Foster Grandparent program brings multi-generational learning to local classrooms. 55 + adult volunteers provide tutoring and mentoring, in person or online! All of these volunteer opportunities are provided through the Aging Strong Program.
