We are creating a super cool virtual and in-person set of natural and cultural history creek tours in the San Francisco East Bay. We're seeking a few folks who have the capacity and interest to do deep research into the creek's history - flora, fauna, geology, city planning, race relations - we're very focused on including BIPOC histories embedded in the watersheds we're touring. This work requires living local to the Bay Area.
(You can see the livestreams that will be embedded in Temescal Creek: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgQpdHgRKqZix9UxkboVxyQ)
Work includes:
- Really interesting research into the creek's history, community groups and activities, scientific studies, primary species, restoration activities, social and environmental justice and where it is daylighted (above ground) and where the creek is underneath in pipes.
- Writing text, gathering existing images for website and for printable creek guide
- Walking/biking the creeks to take pictures to create online maps with points of interest for those unable to currently get out into the watersheds (or who aren't local).
- Supporting the live-streaming creek walking with a naturalist events that we're doing in various watersheds
We're looking for 2-3 additional volunteers that are
- capable researchers
- can take initiative
- keep to a schedule
- good team communicators
- enjoy themselves as they work
- excellent writing skills
- organized
- live in the SF Bay Area
- Loving creek ecology isn't a bad add-on.
