ORGANIZATION: School on Wheels

one on one tutoring with text

Are you passionate about education and want to serve as a role model? Children experiencing homelessness need extra time and attention to succeed in school. Based in Southern California, School on Wheels provides academic tutoring to children living in shelters, motels, vehicles, group foster homes, and on the streets. We train and match our volunteers with students in their community, who then meet weekly to focus on learning. You can specify to work one-on-one with an elementary, middle, or high school student in-person or meet your student virtually!

Volunteer Testimony

If someone asked me why they should become a tutor, I would say, "Do it! It’s fun, it’s important, and it’s rewarding. I love reminding children that education and growth are exciting and fun. Seeing a shift in attitude and perspective towards education is the greatest and most rewarding gift. -Volunteer Tutor, Nick
