21+ Male Advocates Needed

ORGANIZATION: CASA of San Mateo County

CASA Volunteer

CASA of San Mateo County supports Court Appointed Special Advocates(CASAs) giving a foster child a voice in the court room. CASA volunteers create a one-on-one, consistent relationship with the child they serve. They also mentor the child throughout the time the child is under the court's supervision.

As part of our commitment to embracing the community that we serve, CASA of San Mateo County strives to reach volunteers that represent the diversity of our area, including gender.

Last fiscal year 12% of our volunteers identified as male compared to the 88% identifying as female. CASA of San Mateo County wants to change this statistic!

Male Mentor's, 21 years or older, can change and empower a young man's life and be a positive role model for that child. Currently, many male children are left without a CASA advocate due to lack of male volunteers.

About CASA of San Mateo County

Location:

Sobrato Center for Nonprofits - Redwood Shores, 330 Twin Dolphin Drive, Redwood City, CA 94065, US

Mission Statement

To ensure children and youth in the child welfare and juvenile justice systems have a caring and consistent adult who mentors them and advocates for needed resources. Our volunteers provide life-affirming connection and empower young people to reach their fullest potential.

Description

Court Appointed Special Advocates - CASA of San Mateo County empowers YOU to make a difference in the life of a child who has been abused or neglected.

What We do: CASA of San Mateo County recruits, trains, and supports adult volunteers as a powerful voice for the best interest of abused and neglected children who have come under the court’s protection because their parents can’t or won’t take care of them.

What CASA Volunteers do: They listen first. Then they act. Volunteers devote 2-4 hours a week getting to know the child by talking with everyone in that child's life: parents and relatives, foster parents, teachers, medical professionals, attorneys, social workers and others. They use the information they gather to inform judges and others of what the child needs and what will be the best permanent home for them. They provide consistent, caring support and make sure the child doesn't get lost in the system.

For many children, their CASA volunteer will be the one constant adult presence in their lives. For many volunteers, CASA is a life-changing experience that makes a difference in our community. Volunteers must be 21years or older.
