Are you looking for volunteer experience in the animal care field? The WNC Nature Center is looking for a committed, detail oriented volunteer to assist in the animal department with meal preparation. Meal prep volunteers assist by preparing meals for predators, small mammals and the aviary. This is a great hands-on position that gives volunteers a chance to become familiar with wildlife dietary needs and an AZA-accredited facility. Volunteers must be able to work with raw meat and whole prey such as mice and rats. Live prey is NOT fed to our animals.
We are currently looking for a volunteer to work in the meal kitchen on Wednesdays. There is some flexibility on start time as the shift is two hours and needs to be completed by 1:00.
Tasks Include:
- Preparation of 20+ diets
- Ability to work independently without supervision
- Masks must be worn during the meal prep process.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for two hours
- Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word
- Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels
- Visual acuity is required for determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work including exact weights and measurements and observing general surroundings and activities
- Volunteers are not subject to environmental conditions.
- Ability to lift 25 lbs.
Please visit wildwnc.org/volunteer to fill out the application and email to volunteers@wildwnc.org
