Weekend (and holiday) Welcome Desk shifts are 10-1 or 1-4. Duties include, but are not limited to, greeting visitors to the building, explaining basic parts of our mission ("what is a watershed," for example), providing information about our 10 miles of trails, helping with sales at the nature gift shop, answering both phone and in person questions and more. About The Watershed Institute
Location:
31 Titus Mill Road, Pennington, NJ 08534, US
Mission Statement
The Watershed Institute is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the natural environment in the 265-square mile region of central New Jersey drained by Stony Brook and the Millstone River. We are committed to improving community awareness of environmental issues, protecting water quality and quantity, and supporting informed land use decision-making.
Description
The Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association is central New Jersey’s first environmental group. Since 1949 we’ve worked to protect your water and environment through conservation, advocacy, science and education. We speak out for your water and environment, protect and restore sensitive habitats, test our waterways for pollution and inspire others to care for and protect the natural world. Our goal is to improve the health and quality of central New Jersey’s water and sustain a network of protected habitats for wildlife and people.
On 980 acres of protected forest, stream valley, meadow and pond, The Institute operates out of a Platinum LEEDS certified building which includes a nature center, summer camp, and extensive environmental education program. We work with towns, citizens, and businesses to improve land use decisions, conduct stream monitoring and restoration efforts, and advocate for better water quaility standards.
