Every year more than half a million abused and neglected youth are in need of nurturing environments. Too many spend years moving from one temporary home to another. They have no family to call their own. They are more likely than other youth to face homelessness, unemployment, and even prison as adults. That's where CASA steps in. CASA was created to make sure the abuse and neglect these youth originally suffered at home doesn't continue as abuse and neglect at the hands of the system. As trained advocates, CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to be a voice for these youth in court. CASA volunteers are ordinary people who are committed to doing what is best for youth. We welcome volunteers from all cultures, professions, and ethnic and educational backgrounds, and are especially in need of dedicated, caring adult volunteers who have a desire to work with youth 14 years and above. All our volunteers are trained in courtroom procedure, social services, the juvenile justice system, and can identify the special needs of abused and neglected youth. CASA Group Home Project volunteers get the opportunity to partner with another CASA volunteer, and are assigned to a group home to support current and incoming youth as they transition and reside in the home. If you have any questions or need more information please email Kellie Thomas at kcthomas@acgov.org and you can also visit our website at www.CASAofAlamedaCounty.org. Make a difference in the life of an abused child!

Mission Statement
Alameda County Court Appointed Special Advocates Program, (CASA) promotes and supports quality volunteer advocates to speak for the best interests of abused and neglected children in the dependency court system.
Description
Alameda County CASA serves abused, neglected, or abandoned children by recruiting, training, and supervising adult volunteers who are appointed by a juvenile court judge to speak for the best interests of the child. They also aid the judge in finding the child a safe, permanent home. The one-on-one relationship that forms between the CASA volunteer and the dependent child is often the only stable relationship the child has while in foster care.
