Work in teams of two to help make wishes come true! This involves interviewing a wish child and family to determine wish ideas, working with staff to help fulfill their child's wish, helping their wish child stay engaged while waiting for the wish to happen (sending presents, checking in, etc.) and throwing a celebration when the wish is granted.
Time commitment varies depending on the type of wish and number of wishes you are involved with. The wish interview and granting almost always take place in the evening or on a weekend. We are looking for volunteers who can make a long-term commitment (minimum of two years and work on at least 2 wishes per year).
As health & safety of our wish families and volunteers is top priority, we are handling all volunteer roles primarily virtually at this time. Celebrations take place in-person.
*Looking specifically for wish-granting volunteers fluent in English and a second language (Spanish, Arabic, and Mandarin being top languages of need at this time).
If you are interested or have further questions, please contact Volunteer Coordinator Hannah Morgan at hmorgan@midatlantic.wish.org. To learn more, please visit Volunteer - Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic, Inc.

Mission Statement
Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic is a non-profit organization that fulfills the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. The Foundation serves children who reside in Maryland, Washington, DC, Northern Virginia (Arlington, Fairfax, Fauquier, Loudoun and Prince William Counties as well as city of Alexandria), and Delaware.
Description
Founded in 1983, Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic has fulfilled the wishes of more than 4,500 children fighting illnesses such as Cancer, Pediatric AIDS, Cystic Fibrosis, Duchene's Muscular Dystrophy and heart disease. A wish fulfilled creates a memorable experience for a child fighting a life-threatening medical condition and gives him or her something positive to think about instead of medical treatments and hospital visits. Recent wishes include visiting Walt Disney World Resort, taking a family vacation to Australia, receiving a home computer and having a bedroom redecorated. Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic is affiliated with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America.
