The Youth Life Center of The Arts is dedicated to providing personalized, engaging, and effective educational support to youth aged 5-15. Our goal is to foster a love for learning and help each student achieve their academic potential through focused tutoring in reading, phonics, and math.

Overview: The Youth Lif Center offers an enriching after-school volunteer opportunity for individuals passionate about teaching. Volunteers will tutor small groups of students in reading, phonics, and math for two hours, once or twice a week. This program aims to bridge educational gaps, enhance student confidence, and promote academic success.

Volunteer Role:

  1. Position: After-School Tutor
  2. Commitment: 2 hours once or twice a week (flexible scheduling options)
  3. Subjects: Reading, Phonics, English and Math
  4. Age Groups: 5-7, 8-10, 11-13, and 14-15

Responsibilities:

  • Lesson Planning: Prepare engaging and age-appropriate lessons and activities that align with each student's needs.
  • Tutoring Sessions: Conduct tutoring sessions in small groups (3-5 students) focusing on reading, phonics, and math.
  • Progress Tracking: Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to students and, if necessary, their parents or guardians.
  • Support and Encouragement: Create a positive and supportive learning environment to boost student confidence and enthusiasm for learning.

Requirements:

  • Passion for teaching and helping youth succeed academically.
  • Patience, empathy, and strong communication skills.
  • Experience in teaching or tutoring (preferred but not required).
  • Basic understanding of reading, phonics, and math concepts appropriate for the age groups.
  • Ability to commit to a regular schedule for consistency.

The Youth Life Center of The Arts is a year round youth serving non-profit organization that fills this "prime time" gap by providing academic support, enrichment and recreational activities in an economically challenged, multi-cultural, diverse community in Riverdale, GA.

At the Youth Life Center, we provide academic support to help bridge educational gaps in achievement, cognitive, social emotional development, and creative expression to ensure our students have a well rounded educational experience.
