Help resolve complaints while gaining a better understanding of the rights and responsibilities of consumers and businesses.

You will be trained in:

* consumer protection laws

* conflict resolution and mediation skills, and

* settling disputes in areas such as sales practices, false advertising, repairs, landlord/tenant, and defective products.

Use your life skills to solve problems and help others. This branch office in located in Largo in Prince George's County and parking is free. We also offer a $20/day stipend.

We ask that you work ten hours per week split between two days; Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mission Statement

The Consumer Protection Divisionprovides a mediation and arbitration service to consumers to help resolve complaints against businesses and health insurance carriers; registers health clubs and new home builders; and produces a wide array of consumer education materials.

Description

Our volunteers provide an invaluable service to Maryland consumers. They respond to consumer inquiries on the telephone hotline, and mediate consumer complaints against businesses and health care providers. They settle disputes in sales, repairs, debt collection, defective products, false advertising, health spas, housing and medical bills. Volunteers receive training in mediation and learn valuable skills.
