UCSD’s International Services and Engagement Office (ISEO) would like to invite you to participate in the 13th annual Fall Break Connection(Thanksgiving) program!
- Host Recruitment Deadline: Monday, November 11
- Fall Break 2024: Thursday, November 28 - Sunday, December 1
- The Fall Break Connection program gives UC San Diego international students and scholars the opportunity to spend some time with a local San Diego host family or community during the university’s Fall Break from classes. As part of the application process, hosts will indicate which day they would like to host their international guests, and international guests will indicate which day(s) of the Fall Break they are available (there is no overnight component or expectation).
- Fall Break Connection originally began as "Thanksgiving exchange" in 2011 with hosts and guests meeting to share a meal on the Thanksgiving holiday. The program has since expanded into an opportunity for the UC San Diego international community and local San Diego community members to exchange cultures, conversation, and food over the fall break weekend - with the opportunity to discover new friendships.

Description
About the program
The Global Education's English-in-Action (EIA) conversation program matches international students, scholars and spouses with volunteer conversation leaders to help our international visitors with conversational English language skills, simultaneously helping them to acquire a better understanding of American culture and to acclimate more quickly to their new environment. Our volunteers are community members, faculty, staff, and students.
Conversation partners usually meet for 1.5 to 2 hours per week at a time and location that is convenient for both.
The EIA program is a rewarding learning experience for the international guest and volunteer, as they both gain considerable cultural insight and a deeper understanding and appreciation for diversity.
