In the last year, more than 35,000 visitors and school children explored our hands-on exhibits, attended our science, arts, and engineering programs, and discovered the joy childhood offers through play and discovery.

Together with our donors and volunteers, we are driving growth at the county’s only museum devoted to children and you can help!

Over the next decade, we plan to expand our facilities, continue developing our exhibits and programming, and grow into the kind of museum our community needs to be a beacon for the young families who will drive the future of our county.

PLAY AMBASSADOR PROGRAM (11-13 years old)
Become a Play Ambassador at The Museum of Discovery! Lead younger kids on museum adventures, show them cool exhibits, and spark their creativity! This program is perfect for ages 11-13. Parents are expected to stay onsite, but you'll be the star of the show! Participating in our Play Ambassador program is a great way for kids to develop social and emotional skills while helping their community.

YOUTH VOLUNTEER (14-18 years old)
Want to make a difference and earn community service hours? Join our Youth Volunteer program! You'll be the science, math, or art whiz, setting up fun stations and helping younger visitors explore the museum in exciting new ways. We offer flexible scheduling and personalized feedback to help you grow your skills. Plus, you can track your volunteer hours and get a reference letter!

ADULT VOLUNTEERS

Do you love art? Build things? Have a knack for organization? We can use your skills! We have opportunities for weekly art programming, event support, exhibit building, and even joining our Board of Directors. Tell us what you love to do, and we'll find a perfect fit for you. We're flexible and happy to work around your schedule.

Mission Statement

The Santa Cruz Children’s Museum of Discovery will delight, inspire and challenge by providing an exciting and interactive learning environment in which children can explore the wonders of Santa Cruz County. We will be a popular destination for local youth, their parents and teachers in the Monterey Bay area. Additionally, the museum will be renowned as an attraction for visitors to the area. We will utilize cutting edge educational methodologies to maximize the learning opportunities for the children, and will incorporate the feedback from our constituents so that we continually evolve and respond to new ideas. Our permanency will be guaranteed by strong community support and sound nancial planning through grants and donations, events and programs, combined with high volumes of visitors through our doors. We will measure our success by the number of visitors we impact every year, by the awards and other forms of recognition we get among children’s museums, and by the pride that the community has in that which we bring to the children of Santa Cruz County.
