The Diversity and Free Speech (DFS) workshops offer a pleasurable way to enjoy free speech. They are designed for individuals, small groups, companies or organizations.
In business, professional, social or intimate settings, we communicate with people from different social or racial identities.
It can feel challenging to talk with ease lest we cause offense in today's increasingly sensitive world. Some describe it like walking on eggshells.
When we can have free and open discussions between people of different groups, solutions to the many problems facing society can be found.
We are looking for volunteers who support free and open discussion about issues that can often feel divisive in today's America and worldwide.
We teach simple tools for communication that allow people of different races, cultures, genders, identities and ages to communicate with the maximum of free speech combined with personal politeness for individual sensitivities.
After successfully hosting the workshop online, we are now converting it to a video course for companies and organizations. We are rewriting the curriculum and script for video.
All the video scripts are written on Google Docs. You can use the Commenter feature to suggest edits, add research, or make rewrites.
Trigger Warning: If you have strong sensitivities in discussions concerning stereotypes, criticism, humor, and ignorance, please be aware.
The video course scripts are in 5 modules:
- DFS vs DEI - Intent versus Impact
- JISC - Jokes, Ignorance, Stereotypes, Criticism
- SISC - Social Identity Sensitivity Check
- PREP - Personal Responsibility Encouraging Personal Politeness
- SHaWR - Sexual Harassment, and Workplace Relationships
Choose the module you would like to work on and let us know in your application.

Mission Statement
Our community is based on the principle of 'pleasurable activism'. We try to do our bit to 'save the world' but also enjoy ourselves at the same time. It is why we call our community 'Hedonisia'. We have fun in paradise but are not blind to the world's problems. Though our physical community was destroyed in the 2018 Kilauea volcano eruption we continue our work online. In the Hedonisia Lava to Lotus Web Portfolio, we work on a portfolio of activist, ecofeminist and social entrepreneur projects with the assistance of volunteers from across the globe.
Description
Hedonisia Hawaii EcoFeminist Community was started in 2004 in the Hawaiian rainforest. Our community was based on ecofeminism and ecotourism as our social and economic foundations.
Though our community was small, the projects we work on have a global reach. We are idealist and pragmatic seeking entrepreneurial and creative solutions to various challenges we face in the world.
In 2018, Hedonisia Hawaii was destroyed by lava flow from the Kilauea volcanic eruption. Undeterred, we continue work on the many creative projects that were born at our pre-volcano community.
There is a one-acre green zone on the property, that did not get covered by lava. This is known as a Kipuka in the Hawaiian language. We are preparing to return to our land by slowly planting and landscaping on our Kipuka.
In the meanwhile, our community is now virtual. Over five hundred volunteers from around the world have worked on the various projects in the Hedonisia Lava to Lotus Portfolio.
We welcome you to be a volunteer on our virtual team choosing a project that resonates with you.
