Do you think about the kind of person you needed when you were attending Middle School & High School especially when you were learning about your gender identity, gender expression, want to share how to make a campus more inclusive and safe?
The Community Action Network (CAN) Program at the Los Angeles LGBT Center is seeking volunteers passionate about community organizing and facilitating educational workshops for LGBTQ+ youth and youth supporters in Los Angeles.
Community Action Network (CAN) is a volunteer based program for people ages 18-24 who are passionate about working with LGBTQ youth. CAN collaborates with middle and high school students and GSA advisors throughout Los Angeles to build capacity in GSA’s/LGBTQ groups. Trainings incorporate storytelling, LGBTQ+ competency, self-care, LGBTQ+ history, student activism, harm reduction and prevention for substance use, and social change actions that inspire students to become leaders.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Attend and co-facilitate weekly/monthly CAN trainings;
Participate in bi-weekly CAN meetings.
Help maintain safer spaces for youth participants;
Qualifications & Experience:
Must be between the ages of 18-24;
Knowledgeable and sensitive to the issues affecting LGBTQ youth;
Have the desire to work with LGBTQ youth;
Ability to engage youth and co-facilitate CAN trainings;
Responsible, respectful and dependable;
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, ages, sexual orientation and gender identities in a multicultural setting;
Reside in Los Angeles County;
Able to attend bi-weekly virtual meetings for community building and training practice:
We meet the 1st Tuesday of the month via zoom from 6:00pm-7:00pm & 3rd Tuesday of the month in person from 6:00pm-7:30pm.
Training will be provided on site.
