ORGANIZATION: The Toledo Zoo

The Exhibit Guide Program supports the Zoo’s educational and interpretive needs in specific areas within the Zoo. Responsibilities will include:

  • Greet and instruct guests at animal contact exhibits including the shark and ray touch tank and Nancy L and Martin Davidson Barnyard.
  • Engage guests in educational conversations and maintain a safe animal contact experience at the sturgeon touch tank.
  • Educate guests at the elephant exhibit, focusing on topics related to animal welfare and conservation.
  • Educate guests at Galapagos Gardens, helping guests develop an appreciation for and understanding of reptiles.

Training
Exhibit Guides will complete a 2 step training process:

  • Half Day Orientation: review of Zoo Volunteer handbook, techniques to engage guests, responsibilities, and animal information
  • Mentoring Session: shadow a volunteer from our Zoo Educator program for at least 1 shift

Requirements

  • Complete the required training program
  • Give at least 25 hours of service, not including the half day orientation
  • Schedule volunteer time in advance
  • Inform the Volunteer Department if you can not make a scheduled shift.
  • Applications are accepted January - August each year
