Mission Statement

Surmang Foundation is a health promotion US foundation. We operate a primary care clinic in East Tibet, with two doctors, support staff of 5 and 40 community health workers. It provides free care and free meds and has treated over 150,000 patient visits in the past 10 years. It focuses on maternal and infant mortality and morbidity. it has drastically reduced one of the highest maternal and infant mortality rates in the world.

Description

Surmang Foundation is primarily concerned with empowering women and girls. The challenges to Tibetan culture are vast --political, environmental, spiritual. But by saving the lives of mothers and children, we are accomplishing something attainable.
