You can make a difference in the fight for quality healthcare!

The Massachusetts Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) Program trains volunteers to provide Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries education and guidance to prevent, detect and report healthcare errors fraud and abuse.

SMP Counselors

Provide one-on-one counseling and guidance to healthcare consumers, respond to, and refer inquiries about healthcare errors, fraud, and abuse to the Massachusetts SMP Program office. SMP counselors are trained to identify deceptive marketing tactics, scams, abuse, and fraud and to make appropriate referrals.

SMP Case Researchers

Assist SMP staff in researching complaints of healthcare errors, fraud and abuse and reporting complaints to the appropriate agencies for further investigation.

SMP Community Educators

Assist with the delivery of the SMP Program message and the dissemination of program brochures, personal healthcare journals and other promotional item by representing the Massachusetts Senior Medicare Patrol Program at community events, health fairs and other opportunities that provide a forum to spread the SMP message.

SMP Program Ambassadors

Identify and cultivate potential relationships that help the Massachusetts SMP Program broaden its reach and visibility across the state.

SMP Administrative Support Team Members

Provide administrative and clerical support to the Massachusetts SMP Program office. Activities include, but are not limited to data entry, outreach event preparation, assistance with mailings, assistance with outreach/marketing campaigns and participation in ongoing projects.

Provide outreach, and education to Medicare, and Medicaid beneficiaries, family members, and caregivers on how to protect, detect, and report healthcare errors, fraud, and abuse. Volunteers must be 18+.

We believe that home based care, community support services and assisted living programs maintain the dignity of human life by promoting and encouraging the maximum independence of the people they are designed to serve.

Description

AgeSpan, formerly Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley, Inc. is a private, non-profit corporation established in 1974 by a group of citizens throughout the Merrimack Valley who were committed to developing programs and services for elders. The Agency is governed by a policymaking Board that oversees the management of the Agency. Members are a blend of representatives from Councils on Aging and At Large members from communities in our area with 51% of members over the age of 60.

AgeSpan has become a leader in creating services, programs and opportunities for older adults. As an Aging Services Access Point (ASAP), the Agency receives state funding to provide services designed to maintain an elder's independence at home and in the community. AgeSpan is also the designated Area Agency on Aging (AAA), receiving federal funding to fund community services and provide information and referral to elders, families and the community. The Agency also receives funding from a variety of grants, foundations and fund raising efforts and matching funds from local communities.
