The work day begins.

Seeking to put God's love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.

Even if home construction is not for you, you can still help! We need mentors to coach prospective homeoowners in basic homeownership responsibilties from the time they are selected for the program until they are successful homeowners (approximately 6 months after closing).

Members of the Homeowner Support Committee function as a point of contact for 1 or more prospective homeowners, aiding in the understanding of financial wellbeing (how to apply for a homestead exemption, how to secure homeowners insurance), basic home maintenance and more. Materials are provided to help mentors provide support.

In this low-intensity volunteer opportunity, mentors meet with their mentees in person or by phone, or correspond via email in whatever way best meets their needs and schedules. The time commitment is minimal. The Homeowner Support Committee meets once a month for approximately one hour to discuss progress, share ideas and questions and establish best practices.

If you are a homeowner, please share your knowledge and experience! Creating more knowledgeable homeowners uplifts the whole community. Please contact our volunteer coordinator at devasst@habitatstjohns.org.
