The Nutrition Program addresses multiple issues faced by older adults, including poor nutrition, food insecurity, chronic disease, and social isolation. The program provides nutritionally balanced meals, screening, education, and counseling to help older adults maintain a healthy nutritional status.

Volunteer Meal Site Assistants work as part of a team to serve meals to seniors at congregate dining sites, such as senior centers, senior residences, and other community settings.

Volunteer duties may include checking in guests; setting tables; managing reservations; assisting with food preparation, serving and cleanup; and conversing with guests to provide a warm and friendly atmosphere.

Meal Site Assistants are currently needed at the following locations:

Chelsea: Buckley Apartments, 14 Bloomingdale Street (all volunteers welcome, especiallybilingual Spanish)

Malden:
Salem Street Apartments, 630 Salem Street
Markey Senior Center, 7 Washington Street
(all volunteers welcome, especiallybilingual Mandarin and Cantonese)

Medford: Medford Senior Center, 101 Riverside Avenue

Melrose:
Melrose Senior Center, 201 West Foster Street
McCarthy Apartments, 910 Main Street)

North Reading: North Reading Senior Center, 157 Park Street

Revere: Revere Senior Center, 25 Winthrop Avenue

Stoneham:
Stoneham Senior Center, 136 Elm Street
Finnegan Hall, 74 Duncklee Avenue

Wakefield: Harts Hill Heights Apartments, 50 Harts Hill Road

Description

Established in 1975, Mystic Valley Elder Services (MVES) is a non-profit agency that provides essential home- and community-based care and resources such as assistance with personal care, household chores, meals, and transportation to more than 20,000 older adults, adults with disabilities, and their caregivers living in 11 communities north of Boston including Chelsea, Everett, Malden, Medford, Melrose, North Reading, Reading, Revere, Stoneham, Wakefield, and Winthrop. The MVES Volunteer Program has the dual mission of engaging people in volunteer service to meet critical community needs while providing a high-quality experience that will enrich their lives also.
