Lucky Dog Animal Rescue Animal Rescue could not survive without foster parents. Because we have generous foster parents ready and willing to provide temporary housing and lots of love, we are able to rescue dogs and cats just in the knick of time. We pull animals from the shelters just hours or, even minutes, before they are scheduled to be euthanized - before we have the opportunity to line up adopters or sponsors.

Some fosters only have their Lucky Dogs/Cats long enough for a bath, a good meal, and a safe night’s sleep. Others have their Lucky animals long enough to work on training, to develop trust, and to recover from injuries or ailments - all to help them transition smoothly into their forever homes.

Fostering is an incredibly rewarding experience. There is nothing like comparing the "before" pictures of your foster animal in the shelter with the "after" pictures in his or her new adoptive home! Of course, fostering is not without challenges, but Lucky Dog Animal Rescue will be there to help you through any bumps in the road you encounter. We are available to our fosters 24 hours a day!

In addition to needing "full time" foster parents, we also need overnight fosters and temporary fosters. These foster parents take a Lucky Animal for the weekend while their regular foster is out of town. Or, they take a dog/cat for the night between when he or she arrives from the shelter and when she gets adopted. Our short term and temporary fosters fill a critical need for our Lucky Dogs!

To help make a shelter dog or cat a Lucky Animal, sign up on our website (https://www.luckydoganimalrescue.org/volunteer/foster). We can’t wait to hear from you!

About Lucky Dog Animal Rescue

Location:

5159 Langston Blvd, Arlington, VA 22207, US

Mission Statement

Lucky Dog Animal Rescue is a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing homeless and abandoned animals, primarily dogs from high-kill shelters and owners who can no longer care for them. By working with committed volunteers, foster homes, local veterinarians, trainers, and boarding facilities, we are able to rescue hundreds of animals every year, provide them with loving temporary care, and find them well-matched, carefully screened forever homes. We also serve as a resource to our community and all pet owners by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership, including the importance of spay/neuter, positive behavior training, and good nutrition.

Description

About Us

Lucky Dog Animal Rescue is an all-volunteer, non-profit animal rescue organization dedicated to saving the lives of homeless animals and educating the community on responsible pet ownership. Lucky Dog does not have its own facility. Instead, our dogs stay with temporary fosters (and occasionally boarding partners) while they wait to find their forever home. We hold adoption events each week where you can see the Lucky Dogs strut their stuff, and we also arrange private meetings for adopters who fall in love with a pup's internet photo. Our volunteers are more than just volunteers, and our dogs are more than just dogs. We are a family. And we welcome you to become a part!
