Coach and runner

For each season Girls on the Run has a dynamic group of volunteer coaches who give their time to guide and mentor girls. Our coaches play a pivotal role in helping girls grow into happy, healthy, self-confident adolescents and adults! Coaches need not be runners; they just need to be individuals who want to be a positive influence and who are committed to developing and celebrating our youth.

Girls on the Run inspires girls in 3rd-8th grade to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun curriculum that creatively integrates running. Teams meet after school for 1.5 hours, twice a week for ten weeks, in sessions run by volunteer coaches. The seasons runs from September - November and April - June, culminating with participation in a celebratory, non-competitive, 5K run/walk event in Downtown Saginaw in November and Midland in June.

Head Coach: Must be female, at least 21 years old and CPR/First-Aid certified (a low-cost training will be provided). Responsible for parent communication, team administration, supply management and ensuring quality facilitation of the Girls on the Run curriculum. Leads portions of weekly lessons, in coordination with other coaches. Must attend both weekly team meetings. Time commitment: 5-6 hours per week for 10 weeks, plus a 4.75-hour in person coach training, 1 hour online training and attendance at the GOTR 5K.

Assistant Coach: Must be at least 18 years old, may be male or female. Responsible for leading portions of weekly lessons, in coordination with other coaches. Attends one or two team meetings per week. If attending one lesson, must be the same day each week to ensure consistency for the team. 2-4 hours per week for 10 weeks, plus a 4.75-hour in person coach training, 1 hour online training and attendance at the GOTR 5K.

Junior Coaches: Must be at least 16 years of age, may be male or female. Assists with weekly lessons. Attends one or two team meetings per week. 1.5-3 hours per week for 10 weeks, plus a 4.75-hour in person coach training, 1 hour online training and attendance at the GOTR 5K.

Upon receipt of application we will get in touch with you about our current coaching needs.
