The Hygiene Center provides essential resources including showers, laundry facilities, restrooms and a clothing room.
We are seeking volunteers interested in giving back to this vulnerable population. In this position you have direct contact with both staff members and clients and play an integral role in maximizing the impact of our resources.
Volunteers will assist staff by:
- Greeting clients and helping with front desk tasks
- Assigning showers and monitoring timers
- Sorting and distributing hygiene items
- Laundering towels
The greatest need for volunteers is during the peak hours of the hygiene center, which are 7 a.m. - 10 a.m. and 3 - 7 p.m. weekdays, and 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. weekends.

Transition Projects is a leader in transitioning people experiencing homelessness into housing in the city of Portland, and Multnomah County, Oregon. Founded in 1969, Transition Projects is a 501(c)(3) non-profit agency and operates and manages nine unique locations and places hundreds of people into housing each year throughout the Metropolitan area. Transition Projects offers programs, resources and tools to individuals through access to social services including case management, shelter, basic needs, support services, mentorship, and housing. Currently, Transition Projects has a staff of 205, and annually serves more than 10,000 people.
