Mission Statement

Architects / Designers / Planners for Social Responsibility (ADPSR) works for peace, environmental protection, ecological building, social justice, and the development of healthy communities. We believe that design practitioners have a significant role to play in the well-being of our communities.

New Village Press is a subsidiary of ADPSR and publishes books about grassroots community building, social justice, urban ecology and community based arts.

Description

ADPSR's programs aim to:

  1. raise professional and public awareness of critical social and environmental issues
  2. further responsive design and planning
  3. honor persons and organizations whose work exemplifies social responsibility.
Nationally, ADPSR is currently engaged in four programs: 1) Prison Alternatives Campaign, 2) annual Lewis Mumford Awards 3) New Village Press, and 4) Mobilize Design. There are presently three ADPSR chapters in the United States: New York, Chicago, Northern California. ARCPeace is ADPSR's international affiliate.
