Universidad Popular was the first organization I volunteered with in Chicago and I couldn't have had a better experience! The volunteer coordinator at the time connected me with a small group of English Language Learners and being to sit down with them to discuss the issues that are most important to their lives while helping them learn English was one of the most rewarding experiences I've had. Volunteering with Universidad Popular has been one of the best decisions I've made in my life. I continue to be involved with the organization and have had the chance to not only teach English, but also tutor youth, facilitate group discussions about education and lead community peace campaigns and youth social justice projects.
