Description
This area of Southside Virginia has many people who need help with basic literacy. By working with a student 1-2 hours a week you can change a life for the better.
We provide tutoring to adults and young adults in reading, writing, English, math, GED, and life skills. Teaching experience is not required. We provide professional training to become a Basic Literacy tutor or an English tutor (ESOL). All teaching materials and supplies are provided. A part-time literacy coordinator arranges for scheduling, meeting location, and assessment in order to ensure an effective student/tutor match. Tutoring sessions are scheduled at our office and classroom at the Brunswick County Library or at the SVCC Library. Tutoring opportunities are available at the Brunswick Correctional Center, Saturday ESOL classes, and Southside Seniors Center. We also attend community events to raise literacy awareness and educate.
