Mission Statement
An Open Door to Companion Animals in Need
Description
The Espanola Valley Humane Society serves a vast constituency that reaches all of Rio Arriba County and Northern Santa Fe County. We have made impressive strides in addressing pet over-population in the region but there is still tremendous need within this rural and impoversihed region.
Approximately 24% of our funding comes in the form of adoption and clinic fees and contracts with the county and city of Espanola. The rest comes from private donations, grants from foundations and proceeds from our resale stores, The Barkin' Boutique in Santa Fe and St. Francis de Paws in Espanola.
EVHS has a staff veterinarian who perform spay/neuter surgeries. No animal is adopted from EVHS withour first being sterilized and the surgery is included in the $60 adoption fee. All cats and dogs coming inot the shelter are tested for particular diseases and vaccinated. EVHS promotes low-cost spay/neuter to the community as funding allows and low-cost immunizations, including rabies, to teh public. Micro-chipping is also available.
Volunteers are an integral part of our shelter staff. They help us offer all our animal welfare services and save the lives of thousands of animals each year. Time spent on behalf of the animals is welcoma and appreciated.
