Description
Fitness Classes These classes involve a focus on physical exercise to maintain good physical bodily condition. Classes range from an hour to multiple hours in length, and include varying levels of intensity (please see individual class descriptions for intensity levels). Goals in fitness classes may include: strength training, cardiovascular exercise, toning and tightening of muscles, agility and flexibility training, nutrition and mental well-being. Classes are fun, energetic and will help you break a sweat!
Partner Dance Classes Partner Dancing includes dance styles that involve coordinated dancing of two partners. Classes will explore correct body positioning, hand holds, turns, lifts, and footwork of both partners. It is not required that students come with a partner to attend these classes for steps can be learned by oneself, but a partner is encouraged for full understanding of the choreography, footwork, hand positioning and body placement.
Non-partner Dance Classes Non-partner classes include those in which a student dances alone, as opposed to couples dancing together. Classes involve a number of students who are each there for his or her self, and most are conducted in a "follow the leader" format, where the instructor will demonstrate and the students will follow along. Short choreographed dance routines are typically taught for full appreciation of the movements taught in the class. Non-partner dances will include a warm-up and cool-down, and students will move at an individual pace.
Kids Classes Ages 3-14, varying per class (ages 15-17 welcome to join when appropriate). All kids classes will be based off of the Non-partner adult dance category, where kids will "follow the leader" of the instructor as they learn new dance moves, body positioning, styles, and routines. Children will leave class with a sense of accomplishment, respect, body-awareness and varying levels of physical fitness. They will also awaken and explore their creative brain, all while having fun!
Street Dance Classes Hot styles of dance that evolved on the streets (school yards, alleyways, nightclubs)- anywhere outside of a structured dance studio. These dances are physical and high energy with intricate body work, floor work and some 'tricks'. Most classes will teach you choreographed numbers after instructing fundamental movements. Street Dance includes, but is not restrained to: hip hop, funk, breaking, popping, house, krumping and locking.
Ballet Classes From basic techniques for the youngest to creation to an entire repertoire for the experienced dance, ballet engulfs a tradition all its own. Ballet techniques are the basis for a variety of dance forms including lyrical, modern, contemporary, and jazz. Whether it is your desire to become a prima ballerina or hone the skills expected of performance dance, ballet is where it all begins.
Special Classes or Events There are activities that are not considered either a dance or fitness class. Often, an activity is held by an outside instructor who rents Galaxy Dance School's space and charges his or her own fees for the class or event. Please see individual class descriptions for details.
