ORGANIZATION: AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP in New York City/CSSNY

Disaster can strike at any time! You can help your fellow New Yorkers to be prepared in case of an emergency.

RSVP Emergency Preparednes Speakers Bureau (EPSB) volunteers are individuals, age 55 and over, who work in pairs to present a one hour workshop, developed by the American Red Cross and Office of Emergency Management, on how to prepare for an emergency.

No prior experience is necessary. Training is provided. Hours are flexible. We ask that you conduct one training per month.

Our next training is taking place on 9/15/09.

Mission Statement

AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP in New York City was started in 1966 by the Community Service Society (CSS), an over 170-year-old nonprofit agency. CSS's mission is to identify problems which create a permanent poverty class in New York City, and to advocate the systemic changes required to eliminate such problems. CSS will focus on enabling, empowering and promoting opportunities for poor families and individuals to develop their full potential, to contribute to society, and to realize social, economic, and political opportunities.

Description

AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP in New York City matches adults 55 and older with meaningful volunteer opportunities at New York City nonprofits. With more than 2,300 volunteers, our program is one of the largest senior volunteer programs in the nation. There are over 600 of us which operate nationally and many that do so internationally. We match volunteers on the basis of interests and abilities, community needs, geographic convenience, and experience.
