One full-time one-to-two year position available to act as volunteer and outreach coordinator in the Fredericksburg, VA region. RLS is a private nonprofit law firm representing poor people in civil legal matters. Must have previously been trained as a VISTA. Volunteers will receive a modest living allowance, health insurance, and education award of $4,750.00 (after one year), relocation expenses, and travel reimbursement. We are a non-profit corporation that provides free civil legal assistance to low income individuals and families. We have three offices located in Fredericksburg, Tappahannock and Culpeper to better serve area residents.

Description

Today, Rappahannock Legal Services operates 3 offices with 12 full-time and 3 part-time staff providing free legal services in non-fee generating civil matters to those who cannot afford an attorney.

The vast majority of RLS' cases are either family (primarily custody, support and domestic violence), consumer finance, income maintenance/health, or housing. For the fiscal year ending 6/30/12, RLS represented clients in 1,488 legal matters, handled by 5 staff attorneys and 2.67 paralegals and a panel of over 30 private attorneys.

Services provided ranged from counsel and advice to full representation in court and administrative hearings. Because Justice Really Should Be For All.
