In Home Services for Older Adults

Highland Outreach Program for Older Persons (HOPOP) is a program serving the Older Adults of Highland Community Ministries, a non-profit social service organization sponsored by area churches. HOPOP provides counseling, information and referral, nutritional, and recreational services to seniors. HOPOP serves these Zip Codes:40204 and 40205.

Senior Companions provide light household assistance(dusting, making the bed, etc.)for the client in the client's home. The Senior Companions may accompany the client to medical appointments, walk with the client for exercise, run errands for the client, and/or remind the client to take medication, etc. The senior Companion will provide social interaction with and mental stimulation for the client by reading and playing games with the client.

Terms: Volunteer must be at least 55 years of age, Volunteer must meet income eligibility requirement, Volunteer serves 20 hours a week for a year.

Other Information Requested of Volunteers: Verification of Income. Volunteer must pass a physical exam and a mental health assessment.

Help Adults in Need of Extra Assistance

Through the Senior Companion Program, people age 60 and older provide assistance and friendship to homebound adults. Senior Companions serve frail older adults and their caregivers, adults with disabilities, and those with chronic and sometimes terminal illnesses. Senior Companions usually serve two to four clients on a weekly basis, serving at least 20 hours a week. If you are interested in being a Senior Companion, you must meet income eligibility requirements, and for your time you will receive a modest, tax-free stipend to offset the cost of volunteering. Other benefits include reimbursement for transportation, some meals during service, an annual physical, and accident and liability insurance while on duty. Pre-Service and monthly training sessions provided.
