Are you 55 or Better and want to help homeless Veterans? The Veteran Service Center is looking for Peer Navigators (PN's) who will welcome veteran clients to the new One Stop Shop Veteran Services Center (VSC) and guide them through the intake processs by facilitating communication with the VSC staff, other service providers, employers, landlords, and other professionals, and will assist clients in coordinating and scheduling appointments with those representatives. Other duties include helping clients maintain a checklist of service providers contacted and services received, and helping clients develop internet skills for finding employment, housing, and benefits. Basic computer and internet skills, organizational and communication skills required. 2-4 hour shifts, M-F, 9-4 am to pm available. Familiarity with veterans benefits, homeless programs, and Spanish language a plus. All volunteers will be trained by VSC staff on site at the VSC.
The VSC is also looking for Peer Mentors: To engage, encourage and empower participants in the Denver County Veterans Treatment Court
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Attend scheduled court hearings of participants (Certain Mondays @130pm, usually two a month); meet with participants one-on-one as needed; support participants by listening, offering encouragement and compliance with program requirements (i.e. court appearance, treatment, drug testing, locating safe housing/employment), foster interest in pro-social activities; help participants problem solve and identify solutions to common barriers (i.e. transportation, organization, scheduling, budgeting); connect participants to the proper resources for individual needs and goals. QUALIFICATIONS: Be a U.S. Military veteran; have no current criminal justice involvement or prior unresolved criminal justice matters; must adhere to the policies and procedures of the VTC Program; must complete any trainings required by VTC program; must establish and maintain clear, professional boundaries and relationships with participants
SCHEDULE/TIME COMMITMENT: Minimum 4 hours per month, more if desired/6 month commitment
