ORGANIZATION: Open Arms of Minnesota

  • 2 people are interested

The Nonprofit Intern will participate in nearly every aspect of the organization, playing an integral role in the daily activities of the organization and exploring how a nonprofit operates. Intern activities may include, but are not limited to, preparing and packaging meals in the kitchen, delivering meals to clients, greeting delivery driver volunteers, gardening at our farm plot, and performing administrative tasks. Whenever possible, time will also be allotted to facilitate projects related to an intern’s specific area of interest.

A commitment of at least 12 hours a week is required, and all Open Arms interns are asked to complete 240 total hours of service. This is an unpaid internship, although OAM will work with the colleges or universities to help interns receive credit for their work, or to confirm service for fellowships. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

Mission Statement

It’s a simple notion: people who are sick should not be without food. Yet, every day, our neighbors with life-threatening illnesses find themselves unable to shop or cook -- and, often, without the support network to help. That’s where we come in. Open Arms of Minnesota is a nonprofit organization that prepares and delivers nourishing meals free of charge to critically ill Minnesotans and their loved ones. Our registered dietitians and in-house chefs create delicious, medically tailored menus using fresh and organic ingredients whenever possible. Through the support of a loving community of donors and volunteers, we harvest, cook, and deliver nutritious, made-from-scratch meals directly to our clients. At Open Arms, we believe that food is medicine, and there’s always room for one more at our table.

Description

Open Arms began as a single act of kindness in 1986 - Bill Rowe, our founder, cooking food in his apartment and delivering it to a handful of neighbors living with AIDS who had become too sick to cook for themselves.

Three decades later, our operation has grown into an organization with a state-of-the-art facilities in Minneapolis and St. Paul, which has allowed us to prepare and deliver millions of meals for thousands of clients and their loved ones. We have also since opened our arms wider to include more qualifying illnesses, such as cancer, MS, ALS, ESRD, CHF, COPD, and more.

Volunteers are the heart and soul of Open Arms.

From preparing medically tailored meals in our state-of-the-art kitchen to delivering our nourishing food to our critically ill clients, every aspect of our operations is made possible because of the incredible dedication of our volunteers.

Join us in making a profound difference for our neighbors living with life-threatening illnesses. Whether you’re part of an organization or an individual wanting to make a difference, we have a wide variety of opportunities and will work with you to find the perfect fit for your skills, interests, and availability.

We have locations in both Minneapolis (2500 Bloomington Ave, Minneapolis MN 55404) and St. Paul (380 E Lafayette Frontage Rd, St. Paul MN 55107.)
