Looking for volunteers to create Federation of Galaxy Explorers lesson plans. We have a new 42 foot space simulator and need to develop interactive educational materials including scenarios and videos. We already have dozens of lesson plans that will be used as a baseline for creating new lessons. These lesson plans fall under the broad categories of space science, Earth science, engineering, rocketry, and space citizenship.

Mission Statement

The Federation of Galaxy Explorers (FOGE) inspires and educates America's youth in space-related science and engineering.

Description

The nucleus of Galaxy Explorers is the "Mission Team." Kids ("Explorers") meet once a month as part of a Mission Team. During these meetings, Explorers learn about various aspects of space and space exploration through lesson plans and hands-on activities. These monthly meetings are enhanced with periodic guest speakers and field trips. Adult volunteers, "Mission Team Leaders," teach Explorers with easy to understand and fun-to-do educational material covering the areas of space science, earth science, engineering, rocketry and space citizenship. Mission Team members wear uniforms and are rewarded for participation and achievements with patches and medals. Awards are an integral part of the program providing children self-esteem through achievement and recognition. FOGE supplements this experience with a resource loan program (e.g., meteorite collection, astronaut suits), local events (e.g., star gazing parties), and the FOGE Magazine. Volunteers also provide support to FOGE Headquarters, through curriculum development, event planning, fundraising, public outreach, volunteer coordination and administration.
