The Organization

The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies about 40 percent of the nation's blood; teaches skills that save lives; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a not-for-profit organization that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.

The Internship

The American Red Cross offers exceptional undergraduate and graduate students unpaid internship opportunities at our Red Cross national headquarters in Washington, D.C. and in chapters across the country through our Summer Internship Program. Interns are matched with a specific department where they work on advancing critical projects.

The overall aim of the program is to attract a pool of diverse, skilled, enthusiastic young professionals and provide them with an opportunity to build a long-term, substantive relationship with the Red Cross.

Currently we are looking for an Intern for our Talent Acquisition organization. The Talent Acquisition Intern is responsible for project management support for the College and Workforce Inclusion team as well as participation in the full life-cycle recruiting process.

Specific projects include:

  • Coordination of the Summer Internship Program events and assistance with a process improvement effort to enhance the program for future summers
  • Assisting with the redesign of the New Employee and Volunteer Orientation
  • Actively participate in the recruiting process for American Red Cross Human Resources Interns

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Business or a related discipline; prior internship experience with Human Resources is a plus
  • Prior experience with project management and event planning
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment with a demonstrated ability to accomplish multiple task and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work in a virtual management setting
  • Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn)
  • Strong customer service, interpersonal, negotiation, and oral/written communication a must

Description

The national headquarters of the American Red Cross provides assistance with shaping and leading the organization in our mission and strategic plan. National Headquarters also assists with technical guidance to the many Red Cross units, such as Chapters, Armed Forces Emergency Services Stations and Blood Services regions. These units are responsible for the direct service to the community including disaster response and preparedness, messaging to Armed Forces military and their families, collecting and delivering blood products, teaching health and safety skills and helping reunite families through our international services.
