Project is looking for volunteers to sew kid-friendly duffels and/or king-sized pillowcases with drawstings. Straps and pockets are optional. Visit website for patterns. Pillowcases are given to DCYF (Dept. of Children, Youth and Families) instead of using black trash bags.
When a child is taken from a home that has been deemed unsafe by DCYF (Dept. of Children, Youth and Families), the child may take only a small amount of toys, clothes, and personal belongings. Many times, DCYF workers just don't have enough suitcases to use so when a child arrives at a child crisis center, group home, or foster home many times they arrive with literally one or two large black trash bags full of personal items.
Let's change that! This is on-going project. Work at your own pace.
Here are patterns to pillowcase bag and duffel bag

When done, email Hollie Galloway at holliegal@verizon.net and she will arrange to pick up and then deliver to DCYF offices.

Mission Statement
When a child is taken from a home that has been deemed unsafe by Child Protective Services (CPS), the child may take only a small amount of toys, clothes, and personal belongings. Many times, CPS workers just don't have enough suitcases to use so when a child arrives at a child crisis center, group home, or foster home many times they arrive with literally one or two large black trash bags full of personal items. We ask people to sew kid-friendly pillowcases with a drawstring/straps to give to foster kids instead of black trash bag. We offer monthly sewing dates. Website offers patterns so volunteers can work at their own pace. Church groups, sewing circles and others have volunteered to help with this project. Pillowcases are delivered to 6 CPS offices, Child Crisis Center and Helen's Hope Chest which give free clothes to foster kids. We meet once per month for Sewing Days. (Not Summer) Please contact to find out next Sewing Day.
