Internship Description:
The Anacostia Watershed Society is looking for two skillful and enthusiastic people to support our Stewardship Team’s Greening the Built Environment Group for the Spring of 2013 (and continuing through the summer if possible). This internship provides excellent exposure to the world of watershedstewardship, low impact development technologies (LID) - especially Green Roofs - and locally-based non-profit environmental organizations.
Requirements and desired skills:
1. College / graduate student or novel professional
2. Collaborative work ethic
3. Availability 2-3 days per week, days and hours are flexible
4. Must be reliable and responsible
5. Proficient in MS Office
6. One candidate will be experienced in graphic design, landscape architecture and/or GIS
Expected competencies to be gained:
1. Knowledge about green building - especially green roof technology, policies and the DC
rebate program.
2. Knowledge about the Anacostia Watershed, partners and stewardship efforts.
3. Experience working with different professionals and volunteers from diverse
backgrounds.
4. Creation of an independent planning, design or research project focused on Greening
the Built Environment.
Basic responsibilities of the position include:
1. Assisting with the management of Green Roof program, completing reports anddocumentation.
2. Program research, outreach, education and marketing.
3. Conducting verification and stewardship visits to green roofs.

Since 1989, the Anacostia Watershed Society has been working to make the Anacostia River swimmable, fishable and beautiful for everyone to enjoy!
We are always looking for volunteers to help with a variety of activities including: community cleanups, native plant and tree plantings, invasive plant removals, and meadow restorations.
AWS recognizes that volunteers truly are the backbone of this organization and that without them, our mission of cleaning up the Anacostia River would not be possible!
