Helping Hands: Monkey Helpers 2011 Festivale

Festivale Committee Members create our annual premiere fundraiser on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at WGBH Studios, One Guest Street, Boston, MA. Now in its third year, the evening features a silent auction, music, and a selection of culinary delights from some of Boston’s best restaurants, including Mistral, Moo...., Teatro, L’Andana, Sorellina, and many more.

Specific responsibilities will vary, but the focus is on silent/on line auction, sponsorship solicitations, ticket sales, media relations, event planning, and volunteer coordination. We are adding 2-4 enthusiastic members to an existing committee to help us expand.

Time Commitment: Time commitment will vary from month to month, increasing closer to the event. Committee members will attend monthly meetings and are expected to purchase a ticket to the event, as well as recruit other ticket purchasers. We are looking for a commitment for the first half of 2012 (the event will take place in October 2012) but within the year your level of involvement can be flexible based on your schedule.

Qualifications:

  • Must be willing to have fun and enjoy good food and company!
  • No formal experience is required however any event planning experience would be extremely helpful.
  • Must be enthusiastic and willing to help with some mundane tasks, and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in public relations, communications, corporate solicitation, social media, and sales would also be great assets to add the team.
  • Must be able to relate appropriately and professionally with donors, staff, and clients.
  • Committee members must be 21 years or older

Benefits: Join a community of caring individuals who know the power the human-animal bond has in changing lives, while developing event planning and fundraising skills. Enjoy food from some of Boston’s best restaurants.

To submit: Please email Erica Noyes (erican@monkeyhelpers.org) with either a resume or list of relevant experience by February 3, 2012. We hope to fill the committee slots by March 1, 2012.

Mission Statement

Established in 1979, Helping Hands: Monkey Helpers for the Disabled Inc. is a national non-profit 501 (c ) 3 organization that breeds, raises and trains capuchin monkeys to provide daily assistance to people living with spinal cord injury or other mobility impairments.

Helping Hands supports each service monkey and his or her human partner during their many years together through interactive mentoring of the placement, and close supervision of the monkey's behavioral, nutritional and veterinary needs.

Relying on private contributions, Helping Hands provides these specially trained service animals and their lifetime support free of charge to our recipients.

Description

For 30 years, Helping Hands has trained service monkeys to assist our recipients with activities of daily living within their home environment only. Many of these essential tasks are uniquely suited to service monkeys including retrieving dropped items such as phones and remote controls from the floor, loading DVDs, pushing buttons on TVs and computers, opening bottles of water, turning pages of a book, adjusting reading glasses, repositioning an arm or a leg on a wheelchair after a muscle spasm and a wide variety of other activities.

Helping Hands has developed a rigorous multi-year socialization and training program that ensures that every monkey is trained using the same standardized procedures and policies that are measured by quantifiable benchmarks that were first established by the U.S. Veterans Administration in 1982. Every Helping Hands monkey receives top quality veterinary care throughout its life. Furthermore, Helping Hands staff members provide 24/7 support services to respond to any questions that may arise for any of its service monkeys and/or their human recipients/caretaker(s.)
