Mission Statement
Our Mission: Our work will improve the quality of life for the elders of Southwest Detroit by meeting their needs, and the needs of the surrounding neighborhoods, through creative collaboration, advocacy, and innovative programming.
Our Vision: We will be recognized throughout Southest Michigan as a benchmark organization and the first choice for eldercare programs and affordable housing.
Description
BCI was formed in 1980 by the clergy of Southwest Detroit to provide equality and dignity of life for the frail elderly under the name Ecumenical Project SAVE (Seek And Visit the Elderly). In recognition that the quality of life of an elderly person is directly related to the quality of the community which they reside, the mission expanded beyond providing service through volnteer support to include community development and intergenerational activities. The new name was adopted in 1998 to better address the scope of the work and the expansion of the mission. Bridging Communities, Inc. surrounds the elderly of Southwest Detroit with a circle of care to ensure quality and dignity of life. With support systems of caring volunteers who become friends of our elders, we enable this proud hardworking generation that built this urban neighborhood to remain independent in their homes and community.
Bridging Communities, Inc. is a grass roots collaborative of Southwest Detroit business, labor, faith-based organizations and residents working together to create a society where people live in tolerance, compassion, civility and respect. Building on the principles of democracy, empowerment, dignity, justice and equality, we believe that all life has value, from birth to death and that a full meaningful and productive life is based on the level of our participation.
