Mission Statement
We are committed to making the City of San Diego a finer and safer community by providing assistance to the Officers of the SDPD and in particular the Officers of Traffic Division in their efforts to control traffic on the streets and roadways of the city and to promote traffic safety.
Description
Our unit of RSVP Traffic Volunteers (who are at least 50 years old) recruit, train, and patrol with other talented, able-bodied, uniformed citizens who are committed to our mission and who obligate themselves to at least 3 patrols a month (after formal RSVP and Traffic Academies have been successfully completed). Our assistance duties include traffic control at accidents, fires, etc.; abandoned vehicle abatement; disabled parking citations; search for Hit and Run vehicles; DUI and Seatbelt checkpoints; speed and stop sign surveys; roadway deficiency reports; and vehicle violation citation sign-offs.

Driving a specially marked patrol car responding to traffic accidents and other traffic problems is interesting and often exciting. The age has been lowered to 50 and up instead of 55. It's a fine group of men and women; well trained and well equipped and much appreciated by police officers and the public on the street.
