Mission Statement
Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter is an animal welfare organization that manages a private, limited admission facility for companion animals which provides exceptional care for temporary residents. We promote responsible pet ownership and improve the quality of life for companion animals through personalized adoptions and surrenders as well as behavior consultations. In order to foster better relationships between companion animals and their guardians, we provide ongoing community education.
Description
Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter was founded in 1972 out of concern for the quality of care provided for homeless animals. Today, Mt. Pleasant continues to strive to achieve the highest standard of care and provide innovative, community enriching programs and services to benefit both people and animals. As a private shelter, Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter receives no state or municipal funding and admits animals only as room permits. Animals are never euthanized for lack of time or space. Quality veterinary care, microchipping, pediatric spay/neuter, and kennel enrichment programs which are designed to stimulate the animals emotionally, physically and mentally, set Mt. Pleasant apart from other shelters. Mt. Pleasant primarily operates from a waiting list for animal surrenders, but is also known as a friend in the animal welfare community, offering assistance to overcrowded facilities and participating in a variety of animal rescue initiatives through Shelter Partnering. Again, Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter receives no government funds. Its work is carried out through private and corporate contributions as well as foundation grants and bequests. Mt. Pleasant is a private, 501(c)(3) not for profit organization, and donations are tax deductible.
